As of Jan. 8, all passport holders from visa-exempt countries (including the U.S.) traveling to the United Kingdom will be required to apply to the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) program to enter the country, whether you are visiting or have a layover.
Each application will require a nonrefundable 10 GBP application fee. Most applications will be processed within three working days, so be sure to plan accordingly.
Crew members are exempt from needing an ETA to enter the UK as they have different security access requirements than customers.
To apply for an ETA, you will need:
• the passport you will travel with - not a photocopy or digital passport
• access to your emails
• a credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay
The quickest and easiest way to apply for an ETA is by downloading the UK ETA app on your smartphone. You can also apply online.
Once approved, the ETA will electronically attach to the customers' passport. Your ETA will be valid for multiple entries for up to two years (or until your passport expires, whichever comes first).
